The Big Forest NationThe M. E. Lyons YMCA January 2001 - Smoke Signal Hello again to all tribe members of the Big Forest Nation! As we see the final moon of the 2000-year pass we welcome in a new one. I hope everyone had a good holiday season and wish you a healthy and happy New Year. Welcome to the new millenium. At our most recent gathering of the Big Forest Nation we found ourselves at the frozen pond of the Mighty Ducks. Those who braved the bitter cold experienced an exciting game against the Thoroughblades. As it turned out the game ended in a tie even after an overtime period. In any case, though, the seats were good, many snacks were consumed, and the between-period entertainment was fun to watch. This included our representative of the Nation, Bob Polacek of the Apache tribe getting to take a long shot literally at $30,000! Sorry, he missed. No free events this year, but it was a great effort! Better luck next year. The Mighty Shawnee is calling the Nation together in January for roller skating and PRIZES! This event is filled with skating, music to get you moving, games, and did I mention PRIZES? See the flyer for details. Hope to see you there even if you, like me, aren't used to having wheels under your feet. Your Princess or Guide might show you how it's done or both of you could have a learning experience together. As I mentioned in the last Smoke Signal if you haven't looked at the www.bigforest.org website lately you'll want to give it try. It's been updated and can provide you with such things as the calendar of events, Y-Guide contact names, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses. There is a special section as well for your tribe information so if you have digital or just standard pictures of tribe or nation activities they could be scanned and added. Information could be added as well. We'd like to hear from you! Speaking of hearing from you if you or someone you know in the Nation wants to hear from us and needs to get on the distribution list for e-mail (or even the US Postal mailing list) to receive flyers and this newsletter, please let Karl, our Medicine Man, or Bill, our Wampum Bearer, know. We currently do not have e-mail addresses for the following Braves: Arthur Collins, Bob Polacek, Troy Shaw, Kenneth Jenkins, Stuart Streit, Chip Eberle, Paul Maue, Gary Fruhwirth, Don Lakes, Stewart Logan, Steven Gammon, Clyde Horn, Dan Millette, Stuart Francis, Rafael Gely, Pete Foley, John Gruber, T.R. Stoner, Steve Boyd. In addition, some of the e-mail addresses we have are not correct. We have incorrect e-mail addresses for the following braves: Greg Steller, David Luzader, Calvin Taylor, Andy Sorensen, Chuck Hertel, Glenn Hamilton, Steve Moser, Tim Foster, Mike Sherman, Mike Kerth, Dave Knuth. On another note hopefully most everyone has received everything they need by now but if any member does not have their headbands, program patches or books please see Brian Rawlings at the YMCA. He can give you what you need. And finally, if you need any assistance or have questions as always please feel free to contact your tribal chief, the YMCA at 474-1400 or any member of the High Council below: Happy New Year and may the Great Spirit be with you till we meet again!
